I finished my stitching.
I have finally finished my stitching. I think it is definitely slow stitching. last time I had done a practice branch to see how it would go. /2023/01/13/stitching-some-trees/
I wanted to add some snow but felting onto the cotton wasn’t good. and yarn didn’t look right. So I thought, why not make it on some felt and then you can needle on some snow. The branch worked out really well. I do love stitching on felt.
Then I tried to add snow. Nope, it looked terrible. Sorry, no picture and no snow. I was a bit discouraged and was going to give it up as a bad job and then I thought I’d come this far, I should finish the piece.
And here is the finished piece. I used an app that takes out the real background and then you can add a nicer background.
All in all not a bad project with no real purpose other than to slow stitch. I had thought I was doing part of the first quarter challenge but on re-reading it I see I should do the same tree in each season and using an evergreen seems a bit like cheating. I have another idea. I saw a picture of making a tree that looked like it would work well so I am planning to give it a try. so hopefully soon I can show you.
And one last thing as it is valentines day in a couple of days I made a heart.

Those berries are looking very juicy Anne, and the felted snow is also realistic, sometimes it’s just so mindful to just do without any precise reason and then magic happens.
Thank you, I love doing french knots. It is nice to do something without a purpose and without worries of getting it right.
The branch with berries looks great on the felt and, kudos to you for doing it again, on your lovely circular embroidery.
I’m impressed with your ability to use an app to change the background of your photo – I like it!
The heart is so perfectly neat – did you needle it then wet felt it?
Thank you Lyn. The heart is needle felted.
The app is free and called Photo Studio by Square. I don’t think you have a square account to use it. You have a choice of saving it to your square inventory or just to your phone. It pulls the object out and lets you refine it then lets you pic a background.
That final branch looks great, especially on the felt – which does look like snow.
Looking forward to seeing the next tree.
Ann
Thank you, Ann. I hope to do the tree for my next post but you never know.
The branch looks gorgeous Ann and your finished sample would hang merrily on any wall and give pleasure to any viewer.
I suspect lots of folk will want to know the App you used.
Love your ❤️ happy Valentine’s day.
Looking forward to your tree.
Hélène
Thank you Helen I will need to figure out how to frame it.

I like stitching on felt too, and I really like both your branches. Your finished embroidery just says Winter to me . I love it.
Thank you, it’s nice being able to hide the stitches in the felt. The back of my felt doesn’t look nearly as messy as my embroidery.
Great finish Ann, the branch really adds to the whole composition and finished it off nicely. Snow is hard to replicate, isn’t it? I am thinking about adding snow to my birch trees and already can see it might be a problem.
Thanks Ruth. It was much harder in practice then in my head. snow on the ground isn’t so bad but on something that goes in many different directions its had. maybe it would be easier to put the snow in first, then the branch poking out of it.
Both branches look wonderful, Ann. The felt one would make a lovely seasonal painting on its own, once framed. Your slow stitching experience seems really rewarding.
Thanks, I have a whole lot I really need to frame. I am sure I will find my “Round-to-it” eventually.
Maybe it’s because I’m biased in favour of wool, but your embroidery looked really nice on the felt background, Ann. I’m glad you decided to finish your project instead of giving up, there’s always an opportunity for learning with each stitch and your slow stitching looks amazing!
Also, what app is that which removes backgrounds? Asking for a friend 😉
Thanks, I am biased towards the wool too. I am glad I finished it too. now I just have to get a circular mat for it do I can frame it.
