Marketplace Mondays Recap

Marketplace Mondays Recap

I am still in the midst of my house/floor redo and I’m missing all my furniture and applicances. The floor is complete but the company that is supposed to bring my stuff back has failed miserably. I almost forgot to post at all, so I thought I would do a recap post of Markeplace Mondays that I did over ten years ago. Hopefully, there will still be some useful information for people.

Please remember that these posts were written in 2011-2012. Some of the information is probably out of date or maybe not even relevant. Hopefully, this will provide a list of  information and ideas that will improve the business/marketing side of your work. I owned a fine craft gallery for 20+ years so if you  have any specific questions, feel free to ask. 1. Great idea Ruth. There will be lots of readers who can benefit from your very useful tips and suggestions even after 10 years. I don’t think things have changed all that much.
Good luck with getting your “stuff” back as soon as possible. It’s really bad that you are having so much trouble – something I’m sure you can well do without.

    1. Me again – as I knew I would, I have managed to get stuck down the rabbit hole of reading the posts mentioned at the end of your individual posts. It’s taken up nearly all of the morning, when I had intended to get out into the workshop and make a start on my next project.
One of these posts was Karen’s https://feltingandfiberstudio.com/2012/11/08/new-covers/ in which she tells us the problems she had trying to work from the inside out, and everyone in the comments also agreed that it is very difficult to get your head round the technique. At least I’m not alone there then.
Karen also refers in passing to a post by you on rust dyeing. I’ve tried searching for that post but I can’t find it. When you’ve got time can you give us a link please (not that I really need another rabbit hole of course but …… 😁 )

    2. Thanks Ann, sorry to get you down the rabbit hole. Felting inside out causes a lot of people to scratch their heads. I have one friend who just cannot do it that way.

I took a quick look for the rust dying post but it must have been called something else. Probably a mishmash post. It just takes some vinegar water, something rusty and a piece of fabric. Let it sit for a while and you have rust dying.

  2. First off, Appreciation that you send out a newsletter with every thing going on in your world!! I really enjoyed reading the post, it’s great to go back and reread articles – you can always relearn something..

  3. Sorry to hear you are having such difficulty getting things wrapped up on your house. And here I thought New Mexico was the only state that had trouble getting workers to come and work!!:)

    1. Thanks! I think it’s a common occurrence to have employee issues these days but it definitely happens here in Montana.

  4. It is too awful that you are not settled back in your home. I do hope that this situation is fixed soon for you.
I agree with Ann, I love a dive down various rabbit holes, and you have provided such a choice of venues to dive into, and learning new things. Some things do not age.

    1. Thanks Marie, you might even hear the explosion across the pond if I don’t get my stuff back tomorrow. Glad you enjoyed diving into some slightly aged information 😄

  5. Hi Ruth. I’ve only just got round to reading your Marketplace Monday posts. They are so informative and well written I’m kicking myself for not having discovered them sooner. Just wanted to say how much I appreciate the time and wisdom you put into writing them. Thank you.

    1. Thanks Lindsay, I am glad the information is helpful. I learned so much running the gallery for 20+ years and I wanted to share the knowledge.
