More Booties
I’ve been spending most of my spare time making bootie favors for my nephew Mike and his wife Stephanie’s baby shower. This time they were blue for the little boy they are expecting this spring. This was the first batch.
I made a total of 40. I couldn’t find the same kind of bows I used on the 60 pink ones I made two years ago, but Amazon finally came to my rescue. There was no pearl in the center, but looked more masculine. I thought about cutting off the tails to look like a bow tie, but I ran out of time.
The candy I had inside were little candy coated balls of carob and chocolate. I had to devise a system to fill the netting in a bowl because those little suckers traveled fast and rolled everywhere if I didn’t contain them.
All 40 finished and ready to go.
The shower was held this past Sunday at a restaurant. Of course, it snowed all day Saturday and Sunday. But it was still a big success for those who braved the storm. Here are the booties on one of the tables.
I told the family I hoped it would be a while before there were any more baby showers and booties.
I know many of you have done fairs. Have you done any special projects lately?

How totally fabulous!! And completing 40 to boot! 😊 Well done!
Thanks Cath!
I would love to see how you made them, I think they are so cute.
Thanks Sharon! These aren’t complete tutorials, but it gives an idea of what the process is. https://feltingandfiberstudio.com/2015/02/02/this-and-that/

For the blue booties I didn’t make batts. I laid out two layers on each side. I hope that helps. If you have any other questions let me know. I’ve added some comments to the response below. Please let us know if you give it a try.
I would also love to know more about how these are made. I didn’t find anything about the pink booties in the archives. Very cute and 40! Wow!
Thanks Susan! See my response to Sharon above. The key words were baby shower. I made 60 pink ones. The trick is forming the round ends. This time I used two ice cream scoops. It takes some rubbing after the initial felting is done to get it fulled completely. Then after rinsing I reform them after getting as much of the water out by rolling them in a towel. I hope that helps. Let us know if you give it a try.
You must have the stamina of an ox – that’s a lot of work but oh what a beautiful result. They are gorgeous!
Thanks Lyn! I don’t really have that much stamina. It took me about three weeks several hours a day. Not every day, I just did as much as I could at each session. The bootie does take strength to form. After this many, I did develop a process. I just hope I have another two year break. 🙂
I had no idea these baby showers were a thing until a few years ago, and I had no idea they were such a huge thing!! They look really nice, Marilyn, I’m guessing from your tone you’ve no desire to turn it into a business!! 🙂
Thanks Zed! Today baby showers like everything else are a big deal. They’ve been around for as long as I can remember. I had one for my first born, but not as elaborate. You’re right I have no intention of making this a business. It’s hard work making so many. It’s something I do out of love for family.
Those are so precious!
Thanks Karen! It’s fun watching people pick them up and try to figure out what it’s made of.
Bravo, Marilyn! That’s an amazing accomplishment and one that I believe only felters can truly appreciate. Such hard work and persistence paid off!
P.S. So I guess the days of paper nut cups at parties are gone?
Thanks Cathy! Yes, it was hard work. I don’t think paper cups are out style they’re still in the stores. I’ve seen other things like plastic bottles and booties you can fill.
I was surprised some people left theirs on the table. I guess they don’t appreciate hand made items. Their loss.
Hi Marilyn! These are so cute! Yes, only other felters can truly appreciate what goes into making items in bulk. This is such a great idea…I am HOPING I have this “problem” in 2017. My daughter married in 2013 and I am so ready to be a grandma! 🙂 I will happily make booties!!! I made her wedding flowers (for her, the wedding party and all the parents/grandparents). It is definitely a labor of love and I had the same response as you when asked if I would turn it into a business. Oh HECK no! I would do it for my son though, if he ever decides to marry and his fiancee would like felt flowers. Thanks for sharing this–I’m putting this in my file for hopeful projects.
Thanks Terri! I’m impressed you made the wedding flowers. I wasn’t felting when my boys got married or I probably would have done the same thing. For my younger sons wedding, I did make the paper for their invitations. Definitely a labor of love. My older son married in Japan so her family took care of everything thru a wedding planner. But I made 60 booties for their baby shower two years ago.
I hope you get to be a grandma soon. It’s the greatest!
Great job Marilyn! I can’t believe you repeated this process 😉 I hope they were really appreciated. I can’t imagine doing that as a business either.
Thanks Ruth! I didn’t expect to do this again, but I thought it would be a special gift for them. My sister was thrilled that I offered. I’m sure I’ve set a precedent. Hopefully, I’ll still be able to do it when the next one comes along. 🙂
Oooohw…what a lot of work !!! Be happy it weren’t twins !! (However, I have twins 😉
Wonderful !!!
Thanks VIltmaaraan! That’s funny, my sister whose son is the daddy-to-be is a twin. It could have happened. My brother’s (the other twin) boys haven’t married yet. So you never know! I never gave that a thought.
Wow! You did it again… Made enough booties to dress an army of babies. Impressive and very cute! Well done! Which reminds me that my daughters have grown out of their felted slippers, long time ago. And they only have two feet each. 😉
Thanks Zara! It sounds like your going to be felting big girl booties soon! 🙂
Wow I am glad it was you and not me. LOL Great Job.
Thanks Ann!
Wow Marilyn, that was some feat (ouch!). Your booties are beautiful and your daughter must be so proud that she has such a talented mum.
Thanks Karen!
So so cute, Marilyn! What a great idea!
Thanks Peggy!
