Recent pieces
I haven’t really done much since the craft fair a couple of weeks ago, but I do have a few pieces I finished before that I haven’t posted about. This first one is another Diary.
It didn’t sell at the fair, so I altered it and added a strap made from braiding I bought recently and a delrin clip closure. I didn’t have a chance to get a photo though, I gave it to my Dad for Christmas. One thing I worked on over a period of time was another woolly vessel. I embellished a wet felted vessel I made a couple of years ago with lots of wool, angora, mohair and alpaca locks. I attached them by needlefelting, then wrapped it up and put it through the washing machine.
I made this nuno felted piece quite a few weeks ago, but didn’t get a bright day to photograph it. I haven’t decided what to make out of it yet.

I’m surprised that the blue diary didn’t sell. And I’ll be even more surprised if the ‘upgraded’ pod doesn’t sell – it’s a beauty!
I’ve made nothing during the hols – we had 6 for Christmas Day and 10 for Boxing Day dinner so between preparations, hosting and eating up leftovers, there hasn’t been much time.

Wow, did you have time to sit down at all?
The vessel is great. How did you wrap it up so the locks didn’t felt together? I think the nuno piece looks like a good candidate for some machine stitching. If my only choices are felting or relaxing I guess relaxing has to be it.

I just put it into a pillow case and tied the end so it wasn’t loose to catch on any clothes.
I might do a couple more pieces with the same fabric for machine and hand stitching.
I think I was categorising felting and relaxing as roughly the same 🙂
I’m surprised too the blue didn’t sell. But it’s nice you were able to add the buckle and give it to your dad. I love the wooly vessel. I’m curious too how the locks didn’t felt in the machine. The brown fabric piece will make nice case or purse. Hard to tell what size it is. I posted my last felt piece. I’m being worn out by two little guys in Florida. No time for felting until I get home. 🙂

I don’t think anyone took money for the kind of things I was selling, they hadn’t had anything like that before, so I did very well all things considered 🙂
I mostly use raw locks, so that probably helps them not felt, but also they’re not rubbing on anything. They do look different than if I’d washed each lock individually, not silky and loose, but not exactly felted.

I’m going to have to try that with the locks. It’s intriguing. Yes, I’m having fun, but they are wearing me out. We spent the day at Epcot yesterday and I could barely walk when we got to the car to go home. I’ll need a good rest when we get home! But I wouldn’t trade it it for anything. I think clay projects may be in order for the week or so. 🙂
I think people had too many choices over the holidays. I am working on more challenges from my small fiber arts group. These challenges are motivators to get me out of the recliner and off the internet.
I’m glad of a few days vegged out in front of the internet 🙂

The nuno piece would look good framed. It seems to have integrity just as it is ie less is more. I love your woolly vessel. Wish you could teach me how you do this. I feel the need for a new direction too. I have to say I love your art clay work. The nuno seems to belong with some of those pieces.

Yeah, it would go with some of the fimo pieces, good thinking! I just needlefelt the locks to attach them, I use English 56’s or some carded mixed wool. I pull it about to ‘mess it up’, then loosely wrap it around the lock and needle it into place. I start at the bottom and work up, I used some suri alpaca locks this time as kind of ‘fillers’, and used my best Wensleydale and Gotland locks for the top, the nice curly ones are from Kaz, I’m not sure what their real name is, but locks from older Angora goats, looser curls. The woolly vessel is so cool – I love it. I may have to try that technique. I have been relaxing over the holidays – now it’s back to work and back to my regular schedule. I’m looking forward to spending more time felting.

I must admit, trying to keep the house tidy for visitors (so no felting etc) has been hard 🙂
All my visitors wanted to see the process so I got to fulfill my addiction 😉 x
