Felted Lantern Workshop at Pinhey’s Point.
A couple of weeks ago, I did a class at Pinheys Point Historical Site. It is a beautiful site.

We set up in what was the ballroom. The room is about the same size as my living and dining room. Not what I think of as a ballroom, but I guess there was enough room even with the big dresses. If you’re not dancing, you have to stand in another room.
They had lots of fun picking wool colours and silk. They were a great group; they listened carefully and asked good questions.
I love how they are all so different.
Here are a couple of group shots in front of the window. I shows you better how they will look with light in them. They will all lighten as they dry, too.
I always enjoy this class; it’s only half a day, but it gives such great results.
Don’t forget: registration for the expanded 3D resist (book resist) class is open. Class starts September 26, 2026

What a lovely location for a workshop! I love seeing the smiles, while they are busy creating. I need to set some time aside, for myself, and I have just the spot for a couple of them. I’m assuming they would be weather resistant for outdoor use too?
Capi
Thanks, Capi. I don’t now how they would do outside. They fit quite snugly around the glass, so they might be.
Looks like a great location to have a class or even a retreat. Is there lodging there too? The lanterns turned out great and I always love seeing the differences and the choices of colors.
It is a really nice place but there is no accommodation there. It always amazes me how everyone’s pieces are so different.
It is indeed a beautiful sight for a workshop. It looks lovely with the Autumn colours beginning to appear in the trees.
Your workshop class members are always obviously enjoying themselves and this lot are no exception. Great results of course.
Ann
Thank you Ann. Most people come with a happy attitude and that just gets multiplied when there are 10 happy people. It is a beautiful spot. It will be a mass of colour in a month.
The lanterns are beautful! As always individuality shines through (no pun intended) with the colours and patterns.
A good class Ann thanks to your prep, supplies and patience 🙂
Thank you, the sun coming through the big windows, really showed off the colours. the darker ones will look nicer when dry. They will lighten up and the silk will show up again.
I love the lanterns, such a gorgeous selection of colours and hues. Your class looks to be working like a well oiled machine too.
Thank you, they all stayed fairly close together with the timing. It doesn’t happen that often.
Beautiful setting and the lanterns are so unique. I would love to see them lit. Dobthese fit over a hurricane lamp?
Thank you. Sunlight for these is the best I can do. Here is a link to another post I did that has some lit up, just scroll down near the bottom of the post. https://feltingandfiberstudio.com/2026/02/01/felted-lantern-cover-workshop/
these are done over around glass vase. They are removable, so you can several covers and only one vase if you like.
Wow! So pretty! Thank you for sharing.
Your welcome. I am so glad you enjoyed it.
Totally envious of the location Ann. I can see that your students were all working hard and it shows in their beautiful lanterns. They must be as pleased as punch and ready for your next workshop,
