Looking Ahead 2013

Looking Ahead 2013

Will anyone notice if I re-post my plans for 2012? ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m hoping to have more spare time for felting this year as the few hours a week I’d normally have for felting were taken up with working on my business plan and futile searches for info about government schemes and how to write business plans ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d like to be more organised, so that when plans get disrupted or stalled as they often do, I have a back up plan or alternatives so I can make the most of what little time I do have. I recently got a really nice big old desk, like an old teacher’s desk, so I have more space to work and can leave projects out. I’d like to find the few extra minutes it’d take to lay out and felt some extra small pieces of felt to use in collage pieces. I really enjoyed using my offcuts for that last year, and now I’m running low on spare pieces of felt.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs usual, I’m looking forward to the forum challenges. I followed Lyn‘s example and started to write plans in my diary to help with Ruth’s challenge. I don’t have anything at the moment that I can spend 5 minutes a day working on, but I am taking a few minutes each day to think about fibrey things to try to plan so I can make the most of the time when I get a couple of hours to work on a project.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERADoing Karen’s weather challenge reminded me how much I like making felt just for the sake of it, and how abstract felt can make really nice art ‘paintings’ especially when framed. I’d like to find time to make some small pieces with that in mind. As always I’ve really enjoyed our conversations and topics on the forum and really look forward to more of those this year, everyone who comments on the blog and joins in on the forum makes our community a really nice one to belong to ๐Ÿ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhat plans do you have for 2013, have you joined in with Ruth’s challenge?

  1. That looks like a nice desk Zed. It will be nice for you to be able to leave things out if you don’t get finished. And working on your business plan etc. is definitely creative work.

    1. Thanks, Ruth ๐Ÿ™‚
I hope I wasn’t too ‘creative’ on my business plan!

  2. The desk is a humdinger – it’ll make quite a difference to your work space.

Ruth, in her challenge, has given us permission to accept that even reading a textile mag for 5 mins before bed counts as ‘daily fibre’. It’s a great concept that lifts the frustration we all feel at times when ‘the-day-is-too-short’ and enables us to continue with the challenge in the sure knowledge that we cannot fail. For too long I considered that if I didn’t actually make anything in a day that I had let my creative side down, and if there were too many days like that the frustration built up and made a stumbling block to doing anything at all.

What Ruth said in her comment above is spot on.

    1. Thanks, Lyn ๐Ÿ™‚
I usually talk about my plans for ‘tomorrow’ before I go to bed, but actually having it written down really helps. I was thinking about ‘daily fibre’ and getting inspiration etc, and the forum is definitely good for that, with so many of us working on different things. It’s definitely disappointing to not be able to work on a project as planned, through illness or unforeseen circumstances, and I definitely feel worse if there are too many days like that.

  3. I think you do really well on the creative side and business plans always take lots of creativity. You need to think back to high school when you had to take a one page report and turn it into a 10 page report to hand in.

    1. Thanks, Ann ๐Ÿ™‚
We didn’t do anything like that at High School! 10 pages?!
Actually, I did waffle on a bit on my business plan ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. lucky you we were always spending time trying to fluff up a report to make it long enough. Then I got an english teacher in my final year that wanted book reports done on a 1/4 sheet of paper. I was never happier. Many people had a really hard time with it.

  4. Fabulous desk Zed, that’ll definetely help with your work, if i had to do a business plan i’d go banana’s so well done on everything youve accomplished, this year will be wonderful ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks, Kaz ๐Ÿ™‚

The filling in of the business plan wasn’t too bad, it was trying to find out what to include, and then customising one from a few templates! I love the desk ๐Ÿ™‚
