Exhibitions

In my previous blogs this year, I’ve charted my progress in preparing for a big exhibition of my work in a Michelin starred pub/restaurant (The Sportsman, Seasalter) along the coast from where I live.  Making the work was a big undertaking. Since I last wrote, I’ve set up the six-week exhibition and as I press the button on this blog, it still has a few days left to run.

I confess I’ve done no felt-making since I set up this exhibition so I’m going to show you what I have of this event, plus a few photos of another exhibition I had at the same time.

I’m apologising in advance as these aren’t great photos.  I took them more as a record for myself rather than trying to capture the feel. The light is very yellow and they don’t do the venue justice. Once I’d set up the pictures, I had a lovely private view with about 35 friends and family.  Alas, I took no photos of that as I was thinking about being the host.  I did, however, get a nice picture of my daughter and husband in that uncomfortable space when you’re waiting for things to start and worrying in case no one comes to your party

The Sportsman has 3 linked dining areas & a corridor

These are some images from room 1

Room 2 is the largest room

Room 3, which backs onto the kitchen garden

And finally the corridor

Looking at these, I haven’t included everything but I hope you get the idea.

I’m delighted to say that 6 pictures have sold.

While the Sportsman exhibition was in progress, I also had a week in the hut in Whitstable harbour. I was a bit short of felt pictures so I included some 3D work and some of my photographs.

I’ve been thinking about what to do next and pondering some more 3D work. For now, I’m really happy to have got these exhibitions done.

  1. Congratulations on getting such a big job completed. The exhibition looks wonderful and you sold six pictures so that is success in my book. All of your pieces look really great in the venue and what a lovely photo of your daughter and son-in-law. I think you deserve a bit of a break after all that hard work. 😉

    1. Thank you Ruth. Just to clarify: that’s my daughter & my husband (her dad) though he might be quite pleased to be mistaken for a younger man! I’m on a brief visit to a good friend in France so I think I could be described as having a very good break.

  2. Amazing job, you must be so happy to get your work done, framed and up in the restaurant. It all looks so wonderful. I should think that you need a well deserved rest and several G&Ts.
Selling 6 works is the best icing on the cake.

    1. Thank you very much, yes, quite relieved when it was all up and of course thrilled some of them have sold. I will confess to a few celebratory drinks.

  3. Just to clarify, that reply was from me! I’ve also just sold picture no 7 so I’m very happy with that. The exhibition comes down on Sunday evening.

  4. Glad you’ve done so well Lindsay. It would be interesting to know which pictures you sold, that is whether any or many of them were the monochrome printed tree pictures. The image you’ve chosen to head up your post really does look good.
The private view feast looks tasty too.
It is always difficult taking photos of framed and glazed pictures – lots of reflections – especially as it seems to have been a lovely day when you took them. It looks like a great venue.
I hope you managed to sell from the Whitstable Hut. The poppy seed head and the flower bud(?) are amazing. I’d certainly give either of them house room. You’re no slouch with a camera either!
Hope you had a good rest in France and the “get out” from The Sportsman goes smoothly.

    1. Thank you very much, Ann. Yes, my house is now stacked with pictures and I need to get a few of them to their new owners. I sold 2 of the square black & white tree pictures plus the wider red tree one that I used as the header. I was a bit unsure about the red one as the white fibres showed through the silk more than with the others. However, I went ahead with it and the new owners are very happy.

The others were 2 large water pictures, a 3-D mussel shell & a smaller wave one.

And yes, I did have a lovely few days in France.

  5. Well done on getting all that beautiful work completed in time for your opening day Lindsay. You must have felt a huge sigh of relief once it was all up on display. Congrats on having all those sales too!

    1. Thanks, Karen. Yes, it was quite a push to get everything made and the hanging wasn’t completely straightforward (old walls) so I was relieved when it was up & im very pleased with the sales.

I now just have to work out where to store all my stock and how to protect the unframed ones from moths!

  6. Wow Lindsay, I am breathless looking through all of your gorgeous work. Many congratulations on getting to the finish line, creating so many beautiful pieces, hosting your opening which I have no doubt was a resounding success, selling your pieces and still being able to put time into the Hut. You must be exhausted! I hope you are finding time to put your feet up and relax.
