Wet felted wallhanging

Wet felted wallhanging

This is a wet felted wall hanging, it was made for a customer order. She wanted something modern but with not too many colours.

So I started with wool yarn to make the design.

As I started the process, I was inspired and I knew it will look great.

Than I filled with wet coloured wool and than covered with layers of wool.

The felting process take about 3 days of hard work for me.

The customer was very pleased. I hope you enjoy my work!

  2. I just love Ildi’s work and her colour combinations. She had such patience! I’d love her to coe to the UK and do workshops. I have only made one picture using outlines (it was of bars of music) and I never got my lines to stay straight like hers do!

    1. Thank you,it’s not to difficult to keep the lines straights, you just have to use wet yarn..

  3. What an amazing design!! An enormous effort that has paid off and created a truly stunning piece of piece of art.

  4. Good Morning,

This is an excellent example of the art of wet felting…such meticulous work. ..so precise.
    LOVE it….

  5. It’s beautiful! What is the bottom layer under the yarn drawing- light color wool? And did you place a solid color of wool over the top too before wet Felting- or was that the bottom flipped over in the pictures? It is so clear and precise! Thank you for sharing!

    1. It’s grey wool, and after I finished the design,I used white wool for covering the design

  6. Fascinating process and beautiful results. What fiber did you use as the final gray layer? Thanks

  7. I always am amazed by your designs, they are so intricate and balanced. The colors you use are beautiful and add to the finished item. Your talent is amazing and you should be proud of yourself.

    1. Thank you, yes I love these colours,I dye the wool,it’s easier for me to make plans…

  8. Wow! Your work is stunning! Thank you for sharing the process, I couldn’t imagine being able to keep those yarn outlines as neat as you do.

  9. Great post Ildi! I will have to try the process of wetting down the outline and filling with wet wool. It certainly creates a clear design. Well worth the effort!

  10. Truly beautiful Ildi! Thank you so much for describing your process in such detail. I love everything about this these. I am sure your client was absolutely thrilled to receive it!

  11. Ildi, as so many have said above, your piece is fabulous. The design with its muted colours is simple yet very complex. The viewer is drawn in, seeing something different every time.

Sketching your design & then working it in reverse is quite a challenge. Do you always work like this?

You say it took you 3 days – wow. It must have been very heavy with the soapy water, you must have strong arms 🤪. What size is the finished piece and the thickness?

Thank you for explaining your technique, does it have a name and is it typical of where you live?

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

    1. Thank you!Yes,I always work like this(on reverse),this is how I learned 20 years ago..
It’s doesn’t have a name, only it’s a wet felting technique.the size is about 1,70cm/160cm.the thickness is 1cm.thank you again for your kind words..
