Second Quarter Challenge finished …..I think.

Second Quarter Challenge finished …..I think.

I think I have finished stitching my second quarter challenge. I showed it to you at the beginning of the challenge when I had just started the stitching it, here: https://feltingandfiberstudio.com/2016/04/13/stitching-some-felt-and-a-frame/

Since then I have finished stitching all the trees. I tried several stitches I saw on line at this great site.  http://www.embroidery.rocksea.org/stitch/  I also made up a couple.

I also added some topography to my mountains and foreground to give it more texture and depth. I couched down the multicoloured yarn using a variegated embroidery yarn. The other yarn I stitched through the back so the stiches are not seen except at the end where I didn’t want them to fray.

I took and angled shot so you could see how the yarns stick up.

This is the over all picture.  I am happy with it and enjoyed doing the different stitches. I am not sure if I should do something to the clouds. What do you think. What would you suggest?

  1. I agree – hands off the clouds! They’re perfect as they are.

A lovely piece Ann – your stitching brings the trees to life – and it’s perfect for the second quarter challenge.

  2. Same here, I like the clouds as they are! That must have taken you ages, Ann, and it looks really good 🙂

  3. I love the variety of stitches you chose for the trees. Such a serene and lovely piece to meditate on. I have a perfect spot in my home for it 🙂

  4. Oh I love this. Just last night I was doing some embroidery on a mini mural I felted. I would add just a few tiny glass beads to the clouds. I think the sparkle would be a wonderful contrast.

  5. I might add just a suggestion of a 3rd cloud peaking out behind a mountain. ..you know how there are usually clouds around mountain tops…it also adds that special three of something that is so artistically pleasing! The piece is so wonderful. ..very rich textually. ..yum!

    1. Thanks Cheri, I don’t think I could add another one in at this stage. I was hoping the 3 big trees would do it but maybe more would be good.

  6. Great textures and interest with all the different pieces and stitches. I’d leave the clouds alone, too. It’s a lovely piece.

  7. Looks good Ann. Did you tell us how big it was? I think it has enough for a small piece so it doesn’t feel overwhelmed by details. The variety of embroidery adds really fun details. Did you enjoy learning new stitches?

    1. Thanks Ruth. It’s about 9 inches by 12 inches Ruth. So not very big really. Yes I enjoyed the new stitches. that sight i posted is very good.

We'd love to hear your thoughts!
