A Knights Helmet continued

A Knights Helmet continued

Last time I left you with the main part of the helmet drying.  I also made a nose piece and strapping.

It seems I did not take pictures as I thought I had. I guess I must just think about taking pictures and then when I am busy working it is completely out of my mind. Jan got one of me working. I was using a darker grey to create the look of rivets as I attached the strapping and nose guard. I look so serious.

We did get lots of shots of it finished.  And not so serious

Here are a couple on the hat stand in my studio

I am happy with the way it turned out.  I need to make it look like it lost a battle. I wet it down again and rolled it in a towel to get most of the water out. I scrunched it into a ball and then opened it again. I think it looks like a crumpled helmet.

So then it was off to the guild Sale and Exhibition. I think we put Jan’s part and my part together the morning we opened. I think we were both too busy on set-up night to even think about it. It is all a bit of a blur.

we did a little photo shoot after the sale too it is very hard to get a good shot into the inside of the helmet.

I have no idea what to do with it now. What do you do with your projects after the show?

  1. You do look serious, but then it’s a riveting business! (Sorry – couldn’t resist)
That must have been some battle for the helmet to get so dented, but at least it seems to have been a bloodless one. What a great result Ann, and what a lot of glamourous Norman soldiers!
Your and Jan’s final exhibit looks really imaginative. Great result all round.
    Ann

    1. Ann, you are rite, a serious battel and i didnt suggest blood splatters on the helm!!! just think of the resurch! what sort or splatter patterns would a dragons hand make? punckture and tairing i suspect. maybe i can convice Ann to add splatters of blood next time we display it.

    2. Groan, that was terrible. LOL. Dragons a clean bunch and they like to wash their trophies? I did think of adding some holes. With Jan’s hand finished I could use it to get the right placement.

  2. Ann you did a grate job on the helm, maybe adding well resurched blood spatter the next time it shows? i will have the last part of the Hand creation and a bit on the general exhibion sunday.
its cold enuff today maybe you can ware it for work? unlike metle the felt nazel will keep your nose warm!! maybe add a garlend of holly for a more christmas feeling?
i am looking forword to seeing what you come up next as a project there always fun!!

    1. Blood does sound interesting. We would need to research to get the right colour and maybe some thing thick we could drip and let dry. Not to much splatter inside a helmet

  3. I was just wondering how this all went together. It looks great and it looks like the dragon won. I have no idea what to do with exhibition stuff most of the time and that’s why my studio room is getting overfilled. If you made the helmet back to “new” and not looking so damaged, you could sell it to one of those people who does re-enactments.

  4. Your helmet looks stunning. I love the additions of strapping and rivets to it, and any young boy acting out his jousting dreams would be utterly content to have such a helmet. The other ladies helmets are all equally brilliant.
