Some New Pieces

Some New Pieces

I’ve got some things the I made over the last few weeks at the well being centre for today’s post. We aren’t funded, so need to raise some money for supplies and have been making things to sell. We tried rosiepink’s vessel tutorial a few weeks ago and we thought the size of them would appeal to lots of people, so I made another:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis is bit closer with silk and viscose embellishments, though the crop is making them look the same to me now I come to post them!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI started to make this next piece as a tea/coffee mat, I love mine it hides all kinds of stains! It was too small though, so I thought I’d full it hard and make it into a thick trivet type mat instead:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI think I need to give it an iron, all the different wool breeds together with the fulling has created a lot of texture:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI love the look of all the tangled fibres in supermacro photos:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhen we first started doing felting, everyone would choose the really bright colours, especially the pinks, but different people have different tastes and they rarely get picked now, so I started to use them to ‘save’ the other colours, but put together with other bright colours apparently appeals to a lot of people, so I did this when making a flat piece to sell. I don’t know about you, but I can’t decide which is the front and which is the back, so this is side 1:

  1. Pods and trivets should make good selling items. Good luck! I like side 2 it seems to have more texture.

    1. Thanks, Marilyn 🙂
Yeah, I think the overlapping wisps give that impression, they highlight the texture more than the solid areas.

  2. That’s a very pretty pod (are you getting to like pink now Zed?) and I love the bright flat piece – those colours are made for each other. I like both sides but I have a preference for side 2 – can’t say why though.
Very sensible colour for a tea/coffee coaster and practical as the wool won’t scratch any surface but it will protect from heat.
Have you considered felted soaps to sell? Add a bit of ribbon and you could sell them for people to give as Christmas gifts.

    1. Thanks, Lyn 🙂
I have a new appreciation for the brighter pinks! I always liked WoW’s Salmon though.
I might also use silicone on the bottom of the trivet or make a similar one with it. Thanks for reminding me about soaps, I bought some for us to felt on Monday, actually! I’m going to try and find a good affordable source for handmade vegan soaps too.

  3. Hey Zed,

I was out of town so missed your post. I think all of this stuff should sell. I really like side 2 of the bright one but really prefer the natural colors over bright any time.

Another thing I sell tons of is the felted cat toys. People here in the US seem to spend tons of money on pets. Good luck!

    1. Thanks, Ruth 🙂
I keep forgetting about cat toys. I’ll have to look up those balls you use, see if I can get them here!

  4. Great pots and the mats are a good idea. I like side one better….just to be different. Soap is a great seller. Scented soap sells way better than unscented. People ask about unscented, but it doesn’t sell. There are lots on nice naturally scented soaps.

    1. Thanks, Ann 🙂
We made some soaps on Monday actually, we (I say ‘we’, but I only made one!) got them done so quickly one of the women nipped out for more soap, we’re going to cut some in half too and make ‘guest/travel’ soaps too.
