WET FELTING A 3D POD WITH HELENE DOOLEY
In felting, we use resists to create 3 dimensional hollow forms. This workshop is aimed at feltmakers who have very little or no experience working with resists. However, a basic understanding and experience of making felt is essential.
This is an introduction to using a simple resist to create a 3D pod. Working alongside me (videos recorded in real time) you will:
- Create your resist, I will show you different materials you can use (and reuse) for this purpose and how you can change the size of your resist in your future projects;
- Weigh and divide the fibre so that we have even layering throughout the pod;
- Learn a technique for laying out wool fibre on round objects;
- Prefelt the pod and you will discover some tricks on avoiding ridges forming at the edge.
- I will show you how to cut a small hole and how to heal the edges to prevent stretching
- Transform the pod from a disc to 3D
- Shrink your pod completely, shape it and achieve a lovely smooth finish using kitchen tools
- As a bonus, we will take a quick look within the PDF at a few different designs you can try once you have learned the processes taught on the course.
The course is delivered through a series of step by step instructional videos. As these have been recorded in real time, you will have the option of either watching them before embarking on making or working alongside each video. The process has been broken down into specific tasks so that you can work at you own pace and fit your learning around life. Each video has an accompanying downloadable PDF.

All coursework is online and is not “live” so can be accessed at any time. You can access the class information at any time and the class is open continuously so that you can return at any time to review the information and videos. You will have unlimited access to course information after registering and completing payment so there is no pressure to complete the class on a certain schedule. There are no specific start dates for this class as it can be taken at any time during the year.

Course work will be supplied on the Class website. The link to the videos and PDFs will be available on the class website. You may download the PDF to keep. Videos will be available on the website but not available to download. Students will also have access to a private Facebook group where they can share their work and chat. The class website will have a section specifically for asking the instructor questions. Your instructor will visit the classroom daily and check in regularly on the Facebook group.
