Fun Felty stuff and Fabric stuff
ANNIE
I’m still enjoying making more small felt flowers …

…and I’m also making some new flowers on wires to put in with potted houseplants to make them cheerful.

I decided to ‘go large’ with one floral project that could be used as home décor, perhaps draped through an iron bed-frame, banister rail or on a mantle-piece.

However, a flamboyant person could enjoy wearing this as a statement necklace!
I enjoy making felt ‘ropes’ and I’ve turned several of them into multiple-ring bracelets – but opened up they could also be worn as necklaces.

LYN
After months of utility sewing I decided to have some fun and make some pictures for a child’s room by mostly using up scraps of fabric. The pictures are 5”x7” on a 7”x9” board with 1” matte so will fit into a standard photo frame.
The fabric for the fish was made by scattering small pieces of coloured tutu net onto a piece of white cotton fabric then covering with ‘Solvy’ and machine stitching close lines of an almost invisible thread to hold it all together.

Yes, I do like snails don’t I? I’ve done several over the years!

I found a scrap of gold material that was begging to be used and it just had to be a ballerina.

A tiny piece of sequin material was the starting point for this bird.

Teddy gave me a bit of trouble – this is the third attempt as I wasn’t happy with the first two!

Sometimes it’s good to have an inspirational quote on display, so I framed a printed picture of one of my old felt pieces with words on it.

Perhaps we should remember those words when we start a new project but maybe feel a bit overwhelmed by it.

Oooooh ladies where do I start! Everything on offer here I could happily live with.
The coloured flowers I can see in a vase, similar to your coloured balls Annie. Are you selling them in a local gallery? Hopefully both the brooches and bracelets will find their rightful happy customer as they are so cheerful.
Just out of interest….are you right handed Annie?
Lyn – I can see all your pictures adorning a child’s room and I’m sure the ballerina will get pride of place for a young dancer. As you say the fabric announced itself perfectly. Your snail could almost change my mind about the creatures, but my favs have to be the bird and teddy – they are ‘happy’ pictures.
Now to your final piece – I can see your stitching of the Crane (I wish I was so talented with FME work) but have you stitched the words? By hand or machine?
Your inspirational words could certainly help us all. 😜
Yes, Annie is right-handed – curious to know what made you ask 🙂 The colourful flowers certainly make people smile and they look pretty wherever they are worn, placed or poked into flower pots.
The crane was free-motion machine stitched but the typed words were added on top of the picture. Glad you liked the children’s pictures!
I’m always fascinated when wandering around art galleries studying the paintings as to which direction the brush strokes are dominant!
In Annie’s case the ropes all twist in one direction which indicates the most likely direction of layout which therefore suggests to me she is right handed.
A quirk of mine – one of many 😜
Ah I see. Sort of forensic art interest? Very interesting 🙂
Oh what a lot of lovely stuff! Bright, cheerful, HAPPY are the words that shout from all of the pieces. Like Antje I wish I was as good as you with the sewing machine.
And yes, where do you sell your makes?
Ann
Thank you Ann – we do like happy colours! We aren’t selling the makes anywhere just yet but we’re enjoying the process.
Posts from you two ladies are guaranteed to be a riot of colour!
I’m loving your selection of felted flowers Annie and that’s a nice idea to add them to potted plants.
As much as I love your crane, and the positive message, that snail has to be my favourite of the appliqué pieces Lyn, it’s very “you”😁
Ha-ha Karen – as I get older I think I get more like a snail with regard to the speed of my moving around 🙂
Annie’s pot flowers are particularly effective amongst plants that are all green foliage. She loves her indoor plants and strives to make the most of them.
I did cringe when I reread my message hoping you didn’t take it the wrong way😱 🤣
Not at all Karen – I perfectly understood that you meant it was very ‘my style’ and I agree – I loved making Simon the Snail so much that I actually made two 🙂
What a lovely way to start the day, coffee in hand and beautiful felt on my computer screen, if only all my emails were so lovely 🙂 Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Teri! Your lovely comment means a lot 🙂
So pretty, an explosion of a colourful summer garden. Such a lovely idea to use among the leaves of a pot plant. Gorgeous.
Thank you Marie. The pot plant sticks are really effective indoors, especially with an all green plant, and being handmade you can choose your favourite colours!
What a wonderfully colorful post! The flowers are so happy and a great way to decorate any abode.
Your pieces Lyn are definitely in your style. I think the snail is my favorite too. Looks like you both are having fun 🙂
Thank you Ruth – we have definitely enjoyed our recent makes! Annie has so many indoor plants and they are all loved. Felt additions to some of the pots always look good.
I enjoyed the fabric picture making but now I’m itching to get back to some felting.
I’m kind of attracted to that little bird, Lynn!
And Annie’s flowers are such great colors! So cheerful looking. She must have happy plants!
Tesi
Thank you Tesi – the little bird came about when I was looking through my box of small fabric scraps. I found a piece of blue sequin fabric and I had just looked at my picture of a robin that hangs in my craft room – his red breast somehow made me want to use the blue sequin fabric as the breast of a simple bird.
Annie does have green fingers – all her houseplants (and they are many) are happy and healthy and often decorated with felted items. She is great at putting colours together!
love the colourful flowers. I can see them in pots and winding their way around a railing or maybe a curtain rod.
I like them all but the little bird is my favourite. You do great stuff with your sewing machine
Thank you Ann – the flowers are certainly popular. The little bird was the quickest and easiest to make yet turned out the best.
