Here’s a photo of the dried piece I showed last time which I made for the Fauvism Challenge:
It has much more life now it’s dry, but is still lacking detail. I ordered a darning foot for my machine so I can try and add some more detail after I’ve practised a bit!
I wanted to make some felt pieces inspired by the nuno samples I made not so long ago, using small amounts of wool and lots of fulling. I thought the technique would make perfect felt pieces for something like money purses which are handled a lot. I thought I’d stick to single colours because of the wool migration, and started with green, simply because the last thing I made was green, and my netting hadn’t been put away! I laid out some strips of fabric, then added 6 very fine layers of 23 mic Merino in various shades of green. This is the finished piece:
Here’s an angled pic to show all the texture of the ripples:
A lot of these pieces are synthetic, this is one pieces which doesn’t attach very well when I use thicker layers/larger amounts of wool, and even up until fulling has quite loose edges:
This is a piece of viscose scarf:
This is a piece from an old headscarf I was given, I thought it was synthetic, but I might test to see if it’s silk:
Even though it didn’t ripple loads like the others, I liked the result, so much so that I changed another piece I’d laid out, and added strips of that green fabric and some cotton gauze to the top! This is how the back of the piece looks:
