Finished Slippers and Something New
I had planed to do a post about The Holiday Card I sent to Ruth but it hasn’t arrived at her house yet so I don’t want to spoil the surprise.
Instead plan B. As promised some pictures of the finished slippers. I made these for a sample for my slipper class a few weeks ago.
I left the one on the right flat so people could see how it was cut. I will steam or wet it and put it into the correct shape. The one on the left is how is should look . I plan to make a leather sole for them.
The other thing I did for the class was leave one as it was when the felting was finished to show how the wool migrates through the decoration.
And the other one I shaved with a regular disposable razor to show how you can bring it back up.
And now for my something new. It is something I have been talking about and thinking about for a while. Can you guess what it is.

A new camera! It was on sale so now was the time. I had to use my phone to take the pictures because it is so new the battery is still charging. Now I need to figure out some good background and lighting I can use for pictures in my windowless studio. I am thinking some sort of shear on a frame to defuse the harsh light and some wight card for bouncing the light. Maybe a big light gray and or white felt sheet for background.

Yes, shaving the design makes such a difference – good idea to have a before and after. And you have a good photo to show how the slipper is cut.

Congrats on the new camera. Good luck with your set up. I find that to be the hardest part. I have always wanted one of those gradated backgrounds but haven’t ever purchased one. I have a black and white sheet. The black sheet doesn’t work very well as it really sucks the light out of the photo. The white sheet seems to work the best for me.
Thanks Ruth, I have heard that light to mid grey is best for white and light coloured things. I think lighting is my biggest problem. I have not very high ceilings and exposed ductwork under that.. I look at the light boxes for picture taking but they always look so small.
Can you alter the contrast on your camera, Ruth? When I use a black background, I change the contrast to -7, it darkens the black and brightens the colours.
Zed, thanks for the camera instructions. I am sure there is a way to do that but I don’t know how. I keep saying I will read the instructions…

Nice looking slippers, but the new gadget deserves kudos! I’m a Nikon kind of girl myself but a proper camera is a proper camera 🙂
Thanks Leonor, I haven’t used a proper camera for a long time. My mom had a nice 35 mil with nice telephoto and close up rings. It’s too bad they can’t be used on the new cameras. I wonder if the polarised filter lens would. It was good for frost shots. More research to do.
