Mostly Naturals

Mostly Naturals

I’d planned to finish off a couple of projects yesterday – a bird pod, probably from last year, and a vessel I started at the well being centre on Monday – but thought that since I was getting all my felting stuff out, I’d do a ‘quick’ sampler piece with lots of different wools to take to the centre because a few members want to order some wools for felting at home. Well, it took a little bit longer than I’d planned, and I only used 15 different wools! This is it with the rows laid out:

I think this photo shows the colours a bit more accurately:

I used a few embellishments, but didn’t pile them on, like I usually do 🙂 I loosely twisted a silk hankie:

Added some teased apart silk noil:

A little bit of Bamboo staple fibre:

I took a quick photo after felting, before I hung it on the washing line to dry:

I can’t remeber if I ever showed this bird pod, but this is the one I’d planned to finish:

This is the vessel I started on Monday, still damp:

And the other side:

I really intended finishing them later on, but actually got around to felting those pieces of scrim with transfers on, so at least I’ll have those to show next time!.

  1. Great collection of wool colours….I hope you remember which wools they are….I certainly wouldn’t!
Looking forward to seeing your pod and vessel completed. What did you use for the vessel? It looks very interesting.

    1. Thanks, Antje 🙂
I can recognise some of the wools by look and feel, but did write down which I used, just in case! I think I mostly used Portuguese Merino, Brown Finnish and Gotland for the vessel. I took lots of different wools in to our well being centre felting class, and just used what was there, and filled in if I ran out.

  2. Looking forward to seeing the finished felt with scrim transfers!

You almost got a scarf with that lovely naturals sampler and the new vessel is a lovely mix of naturals.

    1. Thanks, Lyn 🙂
I have something for my knees at the next Winter fair with the stripey sampler!

  3. Nice selection of naturals. The last piece has some very interesting textures and shape. What will you do with it?

    1. Thanks, Marilyn 🙂
The last piece is now an actual shaped vessel (cylindrical). I’ll probably take it to one of the next fairs.

  4. Nice collection of wools but your silk hanky flower disappeared. the scrim sounds interesting. the pod and vessel don’t look to far from done. Maybe you should take them with you to the well being center to finish them up.

    1. Thanks, Ann 🙂
Yeah, I was sure the hankie would disappear, but thought twisting it might look nicer than just scrunching. I lent the piece to one of the felt group to help choose wools, so I’ll take some proper photos when I get it back. I usually have to help others out or demo something at the groups, so that’s why I end up finishing them at home. We’d never move on if I took them back to finish!

We'd love to hear your thoughts!
