Thanks to everyone who participated!

Before I had surgery I felted a couple of small things.  The first was using the roving I had dyed for the 3rd Quarter Challenge to make a pod with cuts showing other colors underneath. I had used a lot of coarse fibers and decided I liked the rugged look so I didn’t shave it.

The next was a gift for a friend for her 70th birthday.  Another pod, but slightly larger.  I made some batts first. I used sparkly yarn as well as silk and milk protein for embellishments.

If you look closely you can see the sparkly yarn inside.

Then to get into the holiday spirit I made a poinsettia flower with the intention of embellishing it later.

I used very thin prefelt, cut out the leaf shapes and used layers of saran wrap to separate them.

While I’ve been recuperating from surgery, I’ve been working on some small projects.  I finished the poinsettia by adding beads and adding stitching to the leaves and petals.

What have you been doing for the holidays?

  1. I apologize this was supposed to be published tomorrow. I hit a wrong button evidently and it published immediately.

  2. I love the batts you made and the blue pod is just my kind of thing! The stitching on your pointsettia is very effective and the flower makes a pretty Christmas decoration.

    1. Thanks Lyn! Blue – blue green is definitely my thing as well. 🙂 I wasn’t sure how the poinsettia would turn out but I’m pleased.

  3. Nice pods and poinsettia. I made a bunch of those one Christmas but yours is fancier than mine were. It will make a nice decoration for the house.

    1. Thanks Ruth! I don’t usually do the handwork, but it worked out well.

  4. Congratulations to Maureen.
Great pods. The poinsettia is a great decoration. see now you cant work on big things for a while you have no excuse not finish all the hand work you have been putting off. 🙂

    1. Thanks Ann! It’s the big wet work I love, but I guess I’ll have to work on my small motor skills. 🙂

  5. The poinsettia turned out great! The bit with the saran wrap looks a bit tricky, but you persevered. Always a good thing to work on fine motor skills.

  6. It looks being made to slow down has been good for you Maralyn, the details on the poinsettia are gorgeous! Is it carol that lives nearby? Perhaps you can get a production line going with carol doing the wet felting and you adding the delucate details…. 😉

    1. Thanks Teri! It certainly has forced me to think differently. Great suggestion. Cathy would be happy to help. Our schedules and my energy level has been the issue. I’m hoping by the time I get back from the holidays I’ll be ready to go full force. I do need to work on my small motor skills. 🙂 I’d rather have my hands wet though.

  7. I love the pods, specially the blue one and the poinsettia is wonderful.I take the opportunity to wish you and all the people involved in the Forun a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

    1. Thanks Irene! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours as well!

  8. Your poinsettia is great, Marilyn 🙂 I love the texturey pods too, but the last one is my favourite because I love the colour and embellishments, it reminds me of minerals.

We'd love to hear your thoughts!
