Exciting News and a Giveaway

Exciting News and a Giveaway

We’ve been working on a new venture for The Felting and Fiber Studio … online Workshops and Classes!  The first class we’re offering is “Wet Felting Workshop for Beginners“. The first one starts on Sunday 1st March 2015. It’s a 3 week course developed to give absolute beginners a good foundation on which to develop their wet felting skills. Not only are there the expected ‘How to Felt’ instructions, but there are also simple exercises designed to show what happens when wool felts under different conditions so you can control the outcome. There is also lots of info on using different types of wool and animal fibres, tips for inexpensive tools, alternate techniques etc. For more info on the course, have a look here: http://feltingandfiberstudio.com/wet-felting-for-beginners/

We have lots of ideas in the pipeline and some classes are in development, keep an eye out on our Classes page for further info. We are also hoping other fibre artists will ‘hire’ the Studio site and the Class support forum as an online venue to teach their own classes from. We haven’t figured out the details for this yet, it’s still early days, but it won’t be expensive, we just want to cover hosting costs and media storage expenses; our aim has always been to support the community,  not make our fortunes 🙂  Feel free to contact us if you’re interested.

  1. Thank you for sharing your ideas and experience. Keeping classes affordable is such a boon to those of us living on meager fixed incomes. I look forward to learning more from you.

  2. This looks like a beautiful way to be creative and make chic gifts to give, buy or keep! I am looking forward to learning an experimenting with the new venture of felting.

  3. I think I really like this idea! I have had my first dabble into felting but I haven’t had any lessons so I’m not really that pleased with the results.
    Thank you for posting this!

  4. What a fantastic idea, I will be sure to share on social media. When you decide what format you would like the visiting artists program to take let me know. I would love to get involved and have a few ideas for classes.

    1. Hi Teri,
It’s really up to the individual tutors how they run their courses. We can host media like PDFs for the coursework, and we have set up a forum, similar to ours, where students can interact with tutors and each other on password protected boards. We can tailor the boards for tutors needs. We’re looking at video too, the package we pay for at the moment does have extra media storage, but if there are a number of videos hosted at one time, we might have to pay for extra storage, so that’s where the logistics of how to charge a fair price as a hosting ‘venue’ comes into it.

  5. I’m super excited about this idea – I heard of a similar Skype class and was very interested in the idea…will share! Choose me!

  6. Would love to do this. I’m not a beginner but I love going over the basics with other great feltmakers to remind me of things I have forgotten or to learn things I may have missed.

  7. I been googling, snooogling and ooogling the internet for way to start felting…….(ahhhhh!)
My brain hurts..I think it’s melting..
So much this, so much that……makes me feel as small as a gnat
    Confusion…delusion ……..don’t you see….
That all in one place is the way to be”…..

“Oo baby I love your way…every day” (do da do. Di do do do)
    I.e. I love your style
And pleeeease pick me…pick me…pick me. (For free class lessons)
( I’m broke…..and I just humiliated myself with this awful poetry)
    Xxxxxxxxxxx

  8. Would love to take this class. I’m trying to get better control of the roving, so all the help I get is wonderful. Exciting opportunity.

  9. Wonderful opportunity, thanks. Newbie, self taught by reading books. Looking forward to feedback and tips for better outcome.

  10. People laugh when I tell them how awful I am with wet felting (assuming that one who does needle felting must also understand the former), so this might be the opportunity I need to start learning, and stop making others laugh for the wrong reasons 🙂

    I’ll share this giveaway! 🙂

  11. Wow, this is amazing! I am glad I joined your group when I did. I have always wanted to learn felting along with my daughter, and if wet felting is easier, hooray!

We'd love to hear your thoughts!
